Kruger . National Park is a national park, is one of the largest game reserves in Africa. It has an area of 18,989 square kilometers (7,332 sq mi) and is 360 kilometers (220 mi) north-south and 65 kilometers (40 mi) east-west. To the southwest of this national park are the two provinces of Limpopo and Mpumalanga. North is Zimbabwe, east is Mozambican. It belongs to Great Limpopo Transfrontier Park, a peace park connecting Kruger National Park with Gonarezhou National Park in Zimbabwe, and Limpopo National Park in Mozambican.Kruger is home to more than 517 bird species, of which 253 are inland, 117 are migratory and 147 are nomadic. There are also more than 147 other species of mammals preserved here. In 1989 the number of elephants killed increased and the park tried to protect them, by 2004 the number of elephants had increased to 11670. In 2006 there were 13500 animals, but the park environment only maintained about 8000 animals.
