Valkenburg is a city in the Dutch province Limburg. In addition to the town of Valkenburg, it includes the tourist village of Schin op Geul, the towns of Berg, Terblijt and Houthem-St. Gerlach.

With its hilly landscape, which is atypical for the Netherlands, Valkenburg is a popular holiday destination, especially among the Dutch. The region is a popular hiking and cycling area because of its topography. There are hotels, campsites and bungalow parks in Schin op Geul.

Valkenburg can be easily reached by train. Of 1 Valkenburg train station there are continuous trains to Aachen above Herzogenrath. At the 2 Houthem-Sint Gerlach railway station and 3 Schin op Geul train station stop trains from Maastricht to Heerlen and vice versa. All station buildings are worth seeing and are under monument protection.

- 3 Valkenburg ruins (Valkenburg Castle), Daalhemerweg. The ruins of the only hilltop castle in the Netherlands towers high above the town of Valkenburg. The castle has access to an underground system of escape routes that can be visited.

The park has elements of a classic fairy tale forest with stations on different fairy tales. But there are also playgrounds, carousels and a ship swing. At many stations there are things to do, e.g. archery with Robin Hood. Signage and audio output of the fairy tales are exclusively in Dutch, but experience has shown that children without any knowledge of Dutch also have a lot of fun. Especially for preschoolers.
