Valence is the capital of the autonomous community of the same name, in Spain.

On the right bank of the River Túria is the center of the city of Valencia and the beautiful old quarter of El Carmen. Most of the monuments can be discovered in a simple walking tour of Plaza del Ayuntamiento. Founded by the Romans in 138 BC, Valencia was taken by the Moors in 714. Only in 1238 did Valencia become part of the kingdom of Spain. The three monuments considered to be the most beautiful in the city, la Lonja, the Cathedral and the Torres de Serranos, date from the cultural and economic golden age that the city experienced during the 14th and 15th centuries.

Valencia has a train station in the city centre, the Estacion Central de Ferrocarrilles de Valencia, with easy and quick access to Barcelona, Madrid, Castellón and Alicante.

The A7 motorway links Barcelona and Valencia. If departing from Madrid, take the A3.

Safety
As in any other city, don't walk alone at night in places that are not very busy. Sometimes women can be harassed with flirting in the street, but it is best to ignore them.
