The area began to develop in the 1980s due to the increasing number of domestic and foreign tourists coming here. Vang Vieng today has hotel facilities, restaurants, travel agencies to serve tourists. Vangvieng market sells all kinds of bat, squirrel, monkey, and rat meat. In the center of the district there is a temple.
