Vega de San Mateo, partly also simplified San Mateo, is a small town in the mountains of the island Gran Canaria in the province of Las Palmas.

The Gran Canaria Airport is about 33 km to the east.
By bus
Line 303 of the GLOBAL Salcai-Utinsa S.A.L. connects Vega de San Mateo every half hour during the day with Las Palmas (Estación San Telmo (Andén 4)), occasional connections also at night.

- Agricola Market. The most famous attraction of the place is the Mercado Agrícola, a large farmers market that attracts the crowds from the far surrounding area and especially from Las Palmas on weekends, especially when there are simultaneous events with dancing on some Sundays. In 2018, the market is somewhat relocated and cramped, as the previous market halls and the immediate surroundings are to be catapulted into a new era structurally (planned completion 01/2019).Open: Sat 8 a.m. - 8 p.m., Sun 8 a.m. - 2 p.m.
- Along the Calle Principal and around the church, most of the older houses have been beautifully renovated, a little stroll here is worthwhile.

- In San Mateo you can find an inconspicuous, simple shop in the Calle del Agua 9 a small Gofio mill, the products are also sold directly over the counter, if you are lucky, they are freshly ground and still warm (1 kg for 1.90 € as of 04/2018).

Vega de San Mateo has a large number of different restaurants which, however, are mostly closed. On the weekend for the market, they suddenly open in unexpected places, while very few restaurants are open on Monday and Tuesday evenings.
