Victoria lies on the rocky Seychelles-Island of Mahé, which is described here with. Located in the northeast, it is the capital of the island state off the East African coast.

background

With just under 25,000 inhabitants, it is the smallest capital in Africa. Due to the mountainous hinterland, there is a shortage of housing. Overall, around 90 percent of Seychelleians live on Mahé. Victoria has hardly any sights, at most the "Sir - Selwyn Market" or the "Clock Tower", which the city got from its colonial power Great Britain at the beginning of the 20th century.

getting there

By plane

1  Seychelles International Airport (IATA: SEZ). Seychelles International Airport in the Wikipedia encyclopediaSeychelles International Airport in the media directory Wikimedia CommonsSeychelles International Airport (Q1432843) in the Wikidata database. There are separate terminals for the frequent domestic flights (other islands) and international connections. The airfield is also used for military purposes. In addition to the Seychelles Air Force, also from US drones. The cheapest way to fly from Central Europe is in 2018 Turkish Airways (Change in Istanbul-Ataturk), Etihad (via Abu Dhabi), Qatar Airways (via Doha) as well Emirates with a stay in Dubai, a route that too Air Seychelles flies, which is, however, significantly more expensive than its Arab competition. Condor is priced at the upper end. The non-stop flights from Europe with Air Seychelles (40% Ethiad stake; member of Alliance vanilla) from Paris were discontinued in April 2018. Seasonally in winter charter planes like Edelweiss (Zurich) or Eurowings. From Africa there are flights from Antananarivo and Dar es Salaam as well as with Ethopian above Addis Ababa possibly with European connection.

A taxi from the airport to the city, 11 km, costs at least 500 SR. There is a bus stop on the street. Unsurprisingly, a monorail planned by an Indian consortium from 2011 onwards did not materialize. Also in 2018 it is not yet clear how the urgently needed expansion of the airport, which cost US $ 400 million, will be financed, although talks have been held with investors mainly from Dubai for years. The airport company there will then lease a new building as the operator if necessary.

ZilAir offers helicopter flights to smaller islands with luxury hotels.

Anyone who stays with their boat for more than 30 days has to deal with customs before the deadline has expired. After completing the formalities in the port office, you can then go to the
