Vieux-Habitants (creole: Zabitan) is a parish in Guadeloupe.
background
This place was founded in 1636 by Dominican monks, making it one of the oldest or the oldest communities on the island. The village church with its peculiar tower, which has several roofs, and the cemetery with colored graves are interesting. Coffee, cocoa and vanilla have been grown in the surrounding valleys since the 18th century, and later banana and vegetable plantations were added. The coffee plantations La Grivelière and Vanibel can be visited. La Grivelière can be reached via the D 27. The regional administration has restored the property. Vanibel is now one of the few fully functioning coffee plantations on the island. The stone drawings by Du Plessis are on the D 13 road near Saint-Robert. This is the main place of the Arawak culture.
