Tourist Attractions

  • Parish church Igreja de Nossa Senhora da Piedade was rebuilt after the original church was destroyed in 1430 as a result of pirate attacks in 1667. Works by Martin Conrad and Max Romer can be seen.

  • Capela de Nossa Senhora da Graça. The small chapel 2 km northeast of Madeira was dedicated to an apparition of Mary in the 16th century, destroyed in 1812 and rebuilt around 1950. Memorial procession in mid-August.
