Kelbra hike - Wanderung Kelbra

The day hike leads from Kelbra up to the Kyffhäuser monument. There you need about two hours for the tour. The way back is largely a different route than the way there. Since there are several options for stopping off on the Kyffhäuser, the hike is ideal Family tour at.

Especially with good ones Distant view (?)the Kyffhäuser monument is an ingenious way to overlook the landscape between the Harz Mountains, Leipzig Völkerschlachtdenkmal and Erfurt Cathedral.

Brief description

It is a somewhat sporty and yet quite pleasant and varied hike. In addition to beautiful views and the Kyffhäuser monument, you can also experience the mountains from their wildly romantic side. There is even a small waterfall. Anyone interested in the many different types of forest and the different types of rock in the Kyffhauser will get their money's worth on the tour.

An on-call bus runs between the Kyffhäuser and Kelbra. This makes it possible to walk only half of the hike or to split up the hiking group.

Directions

Directionskmmark
The short hike starts at the bus stop Frankenhäuser Strasse in Kelbra. Follow the loading street to the east. At the end of the village the linden avenue begins, which you follow towards the mountains. From the next intersection, follow the dirt road to the left and now walk parallel to the slope on the Grenzsteinweg to the east. The view of the Goldene Aue is particularly beautiful. The view sweeps over the Mansfeld region and the southern Harz. A mining dump is also clearly visible.0Grenzweg
After about three quarters of an hour, the path turns steeply down to the left. There you leave the marked hiking trail and go right up into the Borntal. At least now it becomes clear why hiking boots are the right choice. Here you can now see more gneisses. Later, on the Kyffhäuser, there is only crumbly sandstone.

Always slightly uphill, along the mostly dried up stream, you get further and further into the valley, which is characterized by quarries. At all (small forks in the road) you keep half right. Soon a large quarry will appear on the left. Now the path climbs steeply. After a few minutes you can reach the Geotope Borntal. When the Holy Born pours in, a small waterfall arises here. Follow the path further uphill and after only about 100m go left to the "Holy Born", one of the few springs in Kyffhäuser. From here you go down again briefly (wonderful oak forests) and then continue eastwards parallel to the slope.

The meandering hillside path meets a wider forest path (bratwurst). Follow this to the top right. Now it's uphill to the Kyffhäuser Monument. Again and again the forest becomes a little lighter and gives a clear view of the Goldene Aue and the monument. After 15 minutes you will come to the crossroads with the forest nature trail, which will later form the way back. Further uphill you will reach the large parking lot after a total of 20 minutes. There is a snack (very good Thuringian Rostbratwurst!), But you can also sit in the restaurant.5,63only above the intersection
Now follow the signs to the monument, which you reach after 10 minutes and a small climb.7,44Kyffhäuserweg
The way back is first the same way: from the monument back to the parking lot and then back in the direction of Sittendorf.8,06Kyffhäuserweg
After a few meters the leads us Forest nature trail to Rothenburg. The path runs parallel to the slope for almost 4km (a good half an hour). There are some beautiful views and the information boards on the topic of forests provide entertainment. Here, too, the children will get their money's worth. A small memorial commemorates Johanna Westpfahl.9,08Main hiking trail
After numerous bends and some beautiful views you reach a small green shelter (Winduke). Here, too, you have to leave the marked hiking trail again; this time to the bottom right. After a short, steep stretch there is a crossroads: left. From here it goes along a spruce forest. You go to the end of the spruce forest (there are a few birches) and then into a ravine. This leads through the total reservation Stone valley. Shortly after its narrowest point, the path leads over a path parallel to the slope. Here you stay straight ahead on the stony ravine and shortly afterwards you reach the edge of the forest.11,36no
In the valley, the Grenzsteinweg, already known from the way there, leads back to Kelbra.13,45Grenzweg

Information about the hike

At the beginning of the hike you use the Grenzsteinweg. This forms the border between Saxony-Anhalt and Thuringia for a long time. Some are standing at the edge of the forest LandmarksAbout halfway between Kelbra and the Borntal you can see a large one on the trees (mostly larches) R.. This mark shows the limit of one Total reservation at. On the way back, the Steintalweg leads directly through this newly established protected area. From here at the latest you should (and especially the children?) The many different Forest types observe. On the way home (forest nature trail), the great variety in Kyffhäuser becomes particularly clear. In the Borntal you can see quite large quarries. Here the gneiss shows itself in different colors. On the upper edge of the quarry on the left (immediately opposite the information board Geo Top Borntal) the water of the holy well falls into the depths. However, this can only be observed after corresponding amounts of rain or during the snowmelt.

The grounds of the Kyffhäuser monument In addition to sightseeing (about two hours) and food (two restaurants and two snacks), it offers a fantastic view of the distance. Not just that you can do the whole thing Kyffhäuser Mountains can overlook, but with the appropriate distance one can also see the related Monument to the Battle of the Nations as well as the Erfurt Cathedral detect. Of course, the view also extends to the Chunks and the Joseph Cross.

Was the architect of the Kyffhäuser Monument and the Monument to the Battle of the Nations Bruno Schmitz. Both monuments are evidence of German militarism. The Kyffhäuser Monument was inaugurated by Kaiser Wilhelm II on 06/18/1896. It served (like the many other Kaiser Wilhelm monuments) to worship Kaiser Wilhelm I, who reunited the German Empire in 1871.

On the way home you use the forest nature trail. Here you can see very beautiful cripple oak forests. Since the Rothenburg Privately owned for some time, not worth hiking there. It used to be an absolute must because Rothenburg had a very nice view of the Goldene Aue. Instead, the way back now leads over the wild and romantic stone valley. You can see the old quarries on the left and right. The gneisses once dismantled here served as building material for the Halle-Kassel railway embankment.

During the entire hike one encounters many different rocks.
