Tourist Attractions

Visitors on the edge of the gorge
the same edge from the other side of the canyon

The gorge of the Kings Creek, which is not always water-bearing, is dug deep into the sandstone, the edges are very steep and sometimes over 100 meters high. At the very end of the gorge is the Garden of eden, a permanent water hole with abundant vegetation (attention, not accessible via the Creek Walk!)

  • At the bottom of the gorge there is a 2.5 km long, very well developed and flat path, the Kings Creek Walk (1 hour there and back with breaks). There are places in it where water comes to the surface and where lush vegetation can be observed. Kangaroos can also be seen early in the morning or late in the evening.
  • The gorge can be extended on the 6 km long Kings Canyon Rim Walk Hike around in 3 to 4 hours, but at the beginning there is a rather steep and rocky piece (not for nothing Heart Break Hill is called). At the top the path is relatively flat, but quite rocky and sandy, the edges are unsecured. At the end of the canyon there is another steep descent with a small metal bridge (great view of the canyon!) To the Garden of Eden, which leads back up to the path on the other side - but you can also walk around the area in the normal way . On the last part of the hike back to the starting point, the path slowly descends and leads past interesting rock domes.

Further hikes:

  • Kathleen Springs Walk. 2.4 km there and back, 1.5 hours, very easy, also suitable for children or wheelchair users, start at Kathleen Gorge.
  • Giles track. Hiking trail between Kings Canyon and Kathleen Gorge, 22 km one way, 2 days, registration and experience required.

activities

One convenient option is one Helicopter flight over the canyon, it offers an excellent view of the terrain, but does not replace the hikes.

kitchen

nightlife

  • The Thirsty Dingo Bar. Beer and pizza.Open: from 2 p.m.

security

The hikes start as early as possible in the morning to be back in the midday heat. Take water with you and drink a lot. Only come close to the edges in secured areas, they are often hollowed out underneath and have slippery surfaces. Don't hike alone. Carefully read the safety information at the parking lot.

After several days of rainfall, the waterhole at the Garden of Eden can overflow and a huge torrent falls down Kings Creek.

climate

The climate is desert-like with very hot temperatures from December to April. The best travel time is therefore from May to November, when the temperatures are more moderate. Even in "winter" there is only sporadic rainfall.
