Geographical notes
West Point Island is located off the northwest tip of West Falkland, separated from it by the Gut Wooly Channel, named after a strong westerly wind. It is located southeast of the Jason Islands.
The island's terrain is hilly with cliffs overhanging the sea (up to 350m high) which provide an excellent habitat for black-browed albatrosses and rockhopper penguins.
Background
As in many locations around the Falkland Islands, in the early 19th century, West Point was a popular site for slaughtering seals and penguins for oil extraction. The island was founded as a farm in 1860 by the Napier family.

How to get
By plane
There is a runway that can be used by FIGAS aircraft, even if the airstrips on the other islands are not as well maintained and therefore in reality it is not used frequently.
West Point Island is frequented by cruise ships that allow their passengers to stop for day trips.
How to get around
The large colony of local fauna located on the western side of the island can be reached from the settlement with a quick off-road trip, or via a pleasant 30-minute walk.
