Williams is a city in the north of Arizona, United States. The city has almost 3000 inhabitants and is considered the gateway to Grand Canyon. It advertises itself with the slogan "Gateway to the Grand Canyon".

In the street

Williams is via Interstate 40 and the Arizona State Route 64 to be reached by car. The city is around 35 miles from Flagstaff away. The drive by car to the South Rim of the Grand Canyon takes about an hour.

Williams is up to the old one Route 66which runs through the historic city center (Old Town).

  • Pete's Route 66 Gas Station Museum. The small, very interesting museum is located directly on Route 66. Pete and Ester give you good information about sights on Route 66, in the area and about the southwest. In the museum you can buy beautiful travel souvenirs cheaply. The museum is a very nice photo opportunity.Price: Admission is free.
  • Route 66 Fun Run. On the first weekend in May, up to 1000 classic cars are on their way from Seligman AZ to Topock Golden Shores, Ca. The event takes place on the longest remaining stretch of Old Route 66 (158 miles). Definitely worth seeing!!!

The Grand Canyon Railway (GCRY) runs from Williams Station (English: Williams Depot) to Grand Canyon Village at Grand Canyon National Park. Diesel-hauled air-conditioned trains leave Williams daily at 9:30 a.m. and return from Grand Canyon Village at 3:30 p.m. The drive for the approximately 64 miles (103 km) takes about 2 1/4 hours each. In the cheapest car class, an adult ride costs $ 65.00 (as of 2015). Trains pulled by steam locomotives run on the first Saturdays from April to September and on five other public holidays and commemorations.
