Willoughby is suburb of Cleveland in Northeast of the US state Ohio.

background

history

The first permanent settler in what is now the city was David Abbott, who ran a mill here from 1798 and maintained close relationships with the local Indians. The place was named in honor of the doctor Westel Willoughby, Jr., who established a short-lived medical college here in 1834.

The majority of Willoughby's resident population is now white. Most jobs are in the service sector, especially health and education.

District and neighboring towns

Willoughby is roughly the shape of a northwest flying dove with residential areas and the Lost Nation Airport in the right wing as well as other residential areas and the commercial street Euclid Avenue in the left wing. The historic town center is located in the heart of the Taube at the intersection of Erie St & Spaulding St. In the immediate vicinity of this corner are not only the town hall, post office and courthouse, but also various pubs, restaurants and independently run small shops. You can find it in the tail, which is already on the other side of the motorway Kirtland Country Club with its beautifully landscaped golf course.

The city is bordered by Eastlake to the west, Wickliffe to the southwest, Willoughby Hills, Waite Hill and Kirtland to the south, and Mentor to the east.

The neighboring town of Timberlake, located in the opposite direction, has a beach several hundred meters wide, which, however, is dominated by a power station. In Willoughby Hills, south of Willoughby, one can find Squire's Castle (River Rd, Willoughby Hills, near Hayes Rd), the gatehouse of a planned mansion built by the oil baron Feargus B.
