background
Windsor and Eton actually consists of the two towns of the same name. Both are separated by the Thames, which is much narrower here than in nearby London. The world famous university town of Eton is on the north side and Windsor on the south of the river. Windsor is one of three official residences of the Queen of England and the largest permanently inhabited castle in the world. For the latter reason in particular, you cannot explore the entire castle grounds and there are further restrictions when the Queen is present. Nonetheless, the extensive grounds are worth a visit at any time of the year, because not only the Queen resides here. Windsor (more precisely St George's Chapel) is the ancestral seat of the Order of the Garter (Order of the Garter), the oldest still active order of knights in the world!

Proximity to London Airport Heathrow It quickly becomes clear to the visitor, after all, when the wind is blowing from the east, the city is right in the flight path. The other London airports are also relatively easy to reach via the metropolis’s good local transport network.
By train
Trains run direct from London train station Waterloo direction Windsor and Eton Riverside or the train station Paddington with change in Slough to Windsor and Eton Central. Both stations are about the same distance from Windsor Castle. Riverside is right on the Thames and therefore closer to Eton.
