The Yuraygir National Park is a national park in Australian stateNew South Wales.

background

The Yuraygir National Park with an area of 15,700 hectares is a real scenic gem. The area is also known as "Big River Country". There is Yuraygir National Park, which incidentally is one of the largest parks on the coast of New South Wales heard, many lakes, viewpoints and beautiful beaches. Tours are sometimes run by the National Parks and Wildlife Service, but only during school holidays. Ask at the National Park Office or the Tourist Office in Grafton.

history

The national park was opened in 1980 and since then has formed a unit with the two Angouri and Red Rock National Parks that adjoin in the north and south. The park got its name from the Yuraygir Aborigines who once lived here.

landscape

40 km of enchanting coast await the visitor. For the most part the beaches are long and the surf rough, but there are also places where shallow waves and a light breeze make a stay pleasant even in the hottest season. The park consists of three units, but they are not too attractive . However, different approaches must be taken into account.

  • In the northern section, the former Angouri National Park, you come from the highway via Maclean - Brooms Head Road. The camp is at Redcliff and is named after the red sandstone cliffs that form part of the coastline. The terrain is less beautiful at first, but if you take a closer look you will find a lagoon with paperbark trees on the banks, which are great for camping. Don't forget to bring drinking water.
  • The middle section, the original Yuraygir National Park, near the small towns of Minnie Water and Wooli, is the most beautiful for my taste. The camp is 4 miles from Wooli Road, near Minnie Water, which is where you can get essential groceries, water and ice. With four-wheel drive vehicles you can reach lonely spots in the dunes via the beach in a northerly direction.
  • The southern section of the reserve is the former Red Rock National Park. The Station Creek Camp is in my opinion the most beautiful in the whole park. It is 14 km east of the highway under old Banksia and eucalyptus trees.
