Eagles - Águilas

Eagles is a city located south of the Murcia region adjoining Andalusia. It is a coastal city on the Gulf of Mazzarrón in the Mediterranean Sea, it is known for its carnivals declared a festival of International Tourist Interest in 2015.

The city is 35 km from Lorca, 105 km from Murcia and 75 km from Cartagena.

Águilas's climate is characterized by its high summer temperatures and mild winters, with intense rains concentrated especially during the month of September. It is preferable to go in spring, when temperatures are around 25ºC, and the main festivals of the city are located: Easter and the Spring Festivities.

To get

The city does not have its own airport, the closest are the International Airport of the Region of Murcia, Almería airport and Alicante-Elche.

By train

The city has train stations Aguilas-El Labradorcico Station Y Aguilas Station that unites the city with Puerto Lumbreras, Lorca, Murcia with stops between connections. It also has an Intercity train that operates only in summer and some weekends. Madrid-Aguilas every Friday and Águilas-Madrid every Sunday. And since the summer of 2013 a Talgo train Barcelona-Eagles, only during the summer.

By car

The city can be reached via the toll road AP-7 E-15 to other cities like Almeria. There are also several roads that pass through the city or nearby.

By bus

The city has a bus station located next to the Águilas railway station that connects the city with some of the main cities in the region and the country, for example, Murcia, Madrid, Mazarron, Cartagena Y Almeria.

The city has several historical buildings such as the Águilas City Council Neo-Mudejar style, the Castle of San Juan de las Águilas 18th century and the Cope Tower from the 16th century among others. It also has several museums such as the Archaeological Museum of Aguilas, the José Matrán museum which is inside the Francisco Rabal House of Culture and Library and the Railway Museum.

Do

The Beaches Águilas are a source of surprises all year round, for resting in summers, for scuba diving in spring and for hiking routes in autumn. It is noteworthy that Águilas has several Blue Flags, both on the beaches and in the Leisure port, sports port, as well as the Q of Las Delicias beach, which says a lot about the quality of its waters and its environmental value. Águilas has one of the best coasts in the Mediterranean. In the very center of the town we find two magnificent promenades, Levante and Poniente, which beautifully adorn the bays, where you can find all kinds of services.

The celebration of Carnival festivities, declared of National Tourist Interest since 1997, and that takes place before Lent (between February and March) is a festival that you cannot miss. Carnivals are traditional festivals that have been passed from generation to generation for centuries. These festivals, with deep anthropological roots, date back to Roman times and began to be celebrated in honor of Momo, the god of laughter and mockery.
