Lutsk - a city in the west Ukraine, capital city Volyn region, on the river Styr (tributary of the Pripyat).

By train

Lutsk is an important railway junction. Railway connections with Kovel, Kiev, Chernivtsi, Odessa, Kirovtsy.

By car

Lutsk is an important road junction. It is located on the M19 Kowel - Dubno main, the H22 Włodzimierz Wołyński - Równe road, the H17 from Lviv and the P14 from the town of Maniewicze.

By bus

There are many bus carriers between Warsaw and Lutsk. The cost of the ticket varies from PLN 50 to PLN 120.

There is a trolleybus system in Łuck.

Worth seeing

  • Orthodox Church of the Protection of the Mother of God, one of the oldest churches in Volyn, founded in the 13th-15th centuries by the Grand Duke Witold. In the church there was a Volyn Icon of the Mother of God - a work from the 13th-14th centuries (now in the collection of the National Museum of Fine Arts in Kiev). In the past, the temple played the role of a cathedral Uniate church, now - a cathedral church of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate established in 1990 (ul. Daniela Halickiego 12).
  • Holy Trinity Cathedral, 1752–1755. The former church of the Holy Cross at the monastery of OO. Of the Bernardines. The entire team was designed by the Jesuit architect Paweł Giżycki. After the dissolution of the order, the church was rebuilt into an Orthodox council in the years 1877–1879. Currently - the cathedral church of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Kiev Patriarchate established in 1990 (Teatralny Square).
  • Bernardine monastery, 1752-1755, built on a horseshoe plan around the monastery temple.
  • Dominican monastery, founded in 1390. by Władysław Jagiełło. It was dissolved in Russia in 1847. Currently, it is the seat of the theological seminary of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate (ul. Drahomanowa).
  • Trinitarian monastery from 1729, now a military hospital (ul. Lesi Ukrainki).
  • Orthodox church Exaltation of the Lord's Cross, 1634. The Lutsk Brotherhood was active here. In 1702 р. the poet Daniel Bratkowski (Bracki Most Square) was buried in the crypt of the church.
  • Jesuit monastery and college, 1646 р. Built according to a design by Benedett Molle. It housed a monastery and college, a noble convent and a diocesan seminary. The entire complex was included in the fortifications of the Lower Castle (6 Kafedralna Street).
  • Cathedral of Saints Peter and Paul, completed 1639, architect Giacomo Briano. Currently, the cathedral church of the Lutsk Diocese (ul. Katedralna) is in operation.
  • The belfry, erected in 1539 at the old Latin cathedral of St. Trinity (ul. Kafedralna)
  • The undergrounds of the cathedral from the 16th-18th centuries, extensive two-storey crypts with fragments of frescoes.
  • Monastery of Charity from the 17th century, built on the site of the former cathedral. Currently, the building is occupied by the curia of the Catholic bishop (ul. Katedralna 17).
  • Czartoryski Tower from the 15th century, the only remnant of the fortifications of the Lower Castle (Dragomanowa Street).
  • Brigid convent from 1624. Built in the baroque style on the site of the palace of Albrycht Stanisław Radziwiłł - the founder of the monastery. In 1846 r. the monastery was dissolved, first it housed a prison, and later - a music school. Currently, there is a male Orthodox monastery of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Kiev Patriarchate (16 Kafedralna Street).
  • Synagogue, 1626-1629 It was an element of the Lower Castle and played an important role in the city's defense system (33 Daniela Halickiego Street).
  • Lubart's Castle, 13th-14th century
  • Puzyna House, 1545-1546 - the oldest residential building in the city (23 Kafedralna Street).
  • Evangelical-Augsburg church, 1906-1907, built in the neo-Gothic style on the foundations of the Carmelite monastery from 1764. Currently, it houses the Baptist church (Karaimska Street).
  • District Office of the Land from 1928 - now the Volhynian Museum of Homeland Studies, ul. Szopena 20.
  • Museum of the Volhynian Icon with unique collections of monuments of church painting. Among them, the oldest surviving in Ukraine, the miraculous Icon of the Mother of God from the 10th-11th centuries - one of the most venerated icons in Ukraine (5 Jaroszczuka Street).

Learning in Ukraine is at the basic level. The university curriculum in Lutsk is not adapted to EU standards (only 1/5 of teachers speak English, no textbooks). Every year the value of bribes increases, especially when it comes to students from foreign countries.
