Agia Galini is a large seaside village, occupying the far SE. end of the prefecture of Rethymno, in the Libyan Sea. It is located on the border with the prefecture of Heraklion, built amphitheatrically on the east side of a rocky edge
Agia Galini is built on the ruins of the ancient city of Soulia, or Soulina that flourished until the 6th century AD. and which was the port of ancient Syvritos, or Souvritia. In modern times it is said to have been inhabited shortly before the Cretan revolution of 1888 for commercial reasons with parallel agricultural and livestock development of the surrounding area.
