H Agia Roumeli is a town and port in the prefecture of Chania, in the southwest Crete
At a glance
It is a popular tourist destination as above the village is one access to the gorge of Samaria, the largest gorge in Greece and one of the largest in Europe with a length of 18 km. Agia Roumeli has a large beach.
How to get there
Access is only possible by boat from Chora Sfakion, through Loutro, as the village does not have road access to the rest of the prefecture.

- Samaria Gorge. At 18 km long, it is probably the longest gorge in Europe after the Verdon Gorge in France. It is a National Park of Greece since 1962 and hosts many endemic species of birds and animals, the most famous of which is the Cretan chamois also known as kri-kri. It took its name from the now abandoned village of Samaria, which in turn owes its name to the church of Saint Mary
