The Athani and Dragon are villages of the south Lefkada
Generally
The first inhabitants of Athani (Bogordeoi, Robotei & Vikenteoi) were from Italy while the primary name of the village was Azani. At the beginning of the 20th century it had about 1,000 inhabitants. During the 1950s and 1960s, a large part of the population emigrated to the USA, Canada, Australia, but also to cities in mainland Greece, such as Patras and Athens. Today (2015) the number of permanent residents of the village is less than 100. In the last twenty years the area has begun to develop tourism due to the beaches of Porto - Katsiki and Egremnon.
