The Arkalochori is its town Of Crete

At a glance

At the site of Profitis Ilias or Sarantavgas, in a small cave, which was a center of worship, several bronze objects were discovered, which were sold to the villagers as metal. During the excavations, many objects were found, mainly double axes, many of which were decorated with gold, as well as the longest (1.05 m long) sword of prehistoric Greece and others. A bronze ax known as the Ax of Arkalochori has hieroglyphic points similar to the well-known points of the Phaistos disk. Another has a Minoan inscription with linear writing AD. The cave was used as a place of worship from 2,500 BC, possibly a war deity, as the offerings are mainly weapons. Its use was probably also as a bronze tool, since pieces of copper have been discovered for processing. In ancient times the cave was demolished, most likely by an earthquake, from the entrance, which was closed and thus the objects that have been discovered to this day were saved.
