History

Ali Pasha gave the old village of Voevoda or Voivoda, which has since taken its name, to Kyra-Vasiliki (1793-1834). Later and until the liberation of Thessaly, the village became the estate of Valide sultana (mother of the sultan). Vassiliki, in order to atone for her marriage to the non-religious Ali, built five churches in the Thessalian plain - one of them was the church of Agios Nikolaos. For its construction, always according to tradition, Ali Pasha sent the master builder of Samplo. The inauguration of Ag. Nikolaou, which is a cruciform church with a dome, were built on May 12, 1818. On the outer wall of the niche of the sanctuary, above a small arch, the figure of the mistress-Basilica is represented.
