The Ελαφονήσι is a small island on the southwest side of Crete in the prefecture of Chania, in the southwest Crete. The island can be reached on foot as it is very close to the shores and the waters are quite shallow, especially in summer. The island is a popular tourist destination, while it is protected by the Natura 2000 treaty, due to the special natural environment.
