THE Lake Smokovo is an artificial lake of Thessaly, on the slopes of Agrafa. He is in Peripheral Unit of Karditsa. It was inaugurated in 2002 and occupies an area of approximately 8.5 sq.km. The purpose of the construction of the lake is to irrigate the southwestern part of the plain of Karditsa, as well as a part of the province of Domokos, of the Regional Unit of Fthiotida. A hydroelectric installation has also been done.
Generally
The dam of the lake was built between 1981 and 1994. The works had been stopped for a long time due to the reactions of the residents. The dam reached a height of 104 meters, 450 meters long and 11 meters wide at its top. At its base it is 30 meters long and 460 meters wide.
