THE Bezanson (French Besançon) is her city NortheastFrance with a population of 113,238 inhabitants.

Besançon is the capital of the County of Doubes, which belongs to the Franche-Compté region. The neighborhoods of the city have developed on the banks of the river Dub, which crosses it. The city is first mentioned in Roman times as "Vesontion".
In the past the city had based its economy on watchmaking, which has evolved into modern microtechnology. Today there are still some handicrafts that make the (old) famous Besançon watches, which can be purchased by the visitor (at various prices) in the city market.

What to see
Perhaps the most important attraction of the city is its old castle, from which the visitor can admire a great view of the city and the river Dub.
The city is the birthplace of the important painter Gustave Courbet, whom he honors with the Gustave Courbet Gallery, with works by the painter. Also, the great 19th century novelist Victor Hugo and the Lumiere brothers (filmmakers) are two great children of Besançon.
An important attraction, as a building, is the hospital of Ag. Saint Jacques, built in the 18th century. Important monuments are also the cathedral of Ag. John in Romano-Gothic style, the Granvel Palace from the Renaissance and the Museum of the Free County.
