Languages
The official language of the state is English while about 30% of the total population of Namibia speaks German. Afrikaans is the common language of the country and is also spoken by the majority of whites. Widespread among the local tribes are the various dialects of the Bantu, the Ottendot and the Bushman.

Important cities
- Windhoek - The capital of the country is located in the heart of the central plateau, at an altitude of 1,650 m.
- Swakopmund (German Swakopmund) - Port built by the Germans in 1892.
- Wolves Bay (English Walvis Bay) - Port built in 1840 during the British occupation.
- Lüderitz - Port city in a protected bay of the south coast. It was founded by merchants in Bremen in 1893.
