Generally

THE Virgin (former Nea Koutsoufliani) belongs geographically to the mountainous Kalampaka, in the northwestern part of the prefecture of Trikala and on the border of Thessaly and Epirus. It has an altitude of 800 meters and is surrounded by giant mountain branches of Pindos, which protect it from winds and abrupt weather changes. It is built next to the national road Ioannina-Trikala and 60 km from the last city. It is crowned by the mountains of Zygos and Hasia, but it also emerges through the huge forests like the crown of Thessaly. It is the largest of the ten villages of Orini Kalampaka and consists of two settlements: Palia Koutsoufliani (today's Platanistos) and Nea Koutsoufliani (today's Panagia). The temperature in summer reaches 30 ° -35 ° Celsius and in winter drops to -10 °. But the lack of humidity, the great dryness of the atmosphere and the huge wooded areas create a healthy climate and pleasant in all seasons. Especially the cold waters in summer and the snows that reach one meter in the center of the village in winter, make the stay attractive.

THE Lark is a mountainous, verdant settlement. It is located close to the mountain Metsovo and about 30 'from the city Kalampakas while it is 59 km away from Trikala. The altitude of the settlement is 750 meters above sea level. The village extends at a distance of about 61 square kilometers. It is located along the road Ioannina-Trikala.

History

THE Virgin was founded on May 13, 1898, when the Koutsoufliani people realized the concession of their village to Turkey, during the demarcation after the Greek-Turkish war of 1897, which was unfortunate for Greece. and unanimously made their own big decision. They burned their village and settled in the small settlement that existed around I.M. Limbohovou, founding Nea Koutsoufliani.

Older name of the village Lark were "Generades" which in Romanian means grooms. The village was probably founded in 1213, which coincides with the founding of the church of Agios Georgios as it is written on the iconostasis of the church.
