H Preveli is her area Of Crete with the homonymous Monastery and the famous beach with the tributary of the palm forest with a length of 1-2 km in a gorge, which composes a unique exotic landscape in the south of Crete and with great interest of the tourist traffic there during the summer months.
At a glance
Most of the palm forest in Preveli was burned in the big fire that broke out in the area, in the early hours of Sunday, August 22, 2010. Almost 70% of the forest was destroyed. However, the palm forest of Preveli, thanks to the fire-resistant unknown until recently distinguishing the palm tree of Theophrastus, managed only in the next autumn quarter of 2010 not only to be reborn, but also to keep alive the same "incinerated" adult palm trees of Theophrastus. At the same time, new seeds sprouted.
