Pegs, the old name of the settlement is "Rapista", while the new one comes from the area of great archaeological importance of the ancient Gomfos. This area is located on the border with Mouzaki Karditsa in the location "Episkopi", on the left bank of the river Pamisos. History
In ancient times the Pegs It was a city of high strategic importance, it was named "Plovdiv" in honor of Philip II of Macedonia. He was also an active member of the Aetolian Confederation. It was most likely renamed Plovdiv by Philip E. Finally in 198 BC, the Gomfoi fall into the kingdom of Athamania of Amyandros. During the Roman Empire, they were the passage of the high Polpius Lycinus Crassus and Julius Caesar on the way to his confrontation with Pompey, with Androsthenes II as his defender. During the period of the Byzantine Empire there is a report of the restoration of the walls of Gomfos by Justinian, while Heraklion established them as the seat of Bishops. In recent years it has become a community, whose population began to decline after World War II and the Civil War, as residents moved either to larger cities or emigrated to rich countries abroad.
