THE Hainan (Chinese: 海南岛, Pingin: Hainán) is the largest island ruled by the People's Republic of Of China with an area of 33,210 square kilometers. It is located in the South China Sea, opposite Guangdong Province, and is the province of the same name. The capital of the island is Haikou with 2,046,189 inhabitants (2010).
