Upper Niger National Park covers an area of about 6000 square kilometers, of which 600 square kilometers is the core area. The park isWest AfricaOne of the few dry forests left. It is also an important area for the protection of forests and savannahs, and is regarded as one of the priority projects for the protection of the entire West Africa.

The local area includes many woodlands and jungle areas. The riparian forests along the banks of the Niger and Mafu Rivers are relatively small. Fires often break out throughout the region during the dry season.
Flora and fauna
The most attractive mammals are chimpanzees. Other interesting species include lions, African manatees and Gambian mongooses.
