In the first year of Tang Tianbao (742), Yunfu County was established, and Dong'an County was established in Wuyin (January 3, 1578) in November of the Wanli fifth year of Ming Dynasty. In the third year of the Republic of China (1914), it was renamed Yunfu County and was under the jurisdiction of Yuehai Road. In the Republic of China, it was affiliated to the Appeasement Office of the Western District of Guangdong Province in 1949, and in the Republic of China it was affiliated to the Office of the Third Administrative Inspectorate of Guangdong Province in 1949.

After the founding of the People’s Republic of China on October 1, 1949, it became part of the Xijiang Prefecture. In 1952, it belonged to the central Guangdong administrative region. In 1958, it merged with Xinxing County and called Xinyun County, which belongs to Gaoyao Prefecture. In April 1959, Xinyun County was renamed Xinxing County and belonged to Jiangmen Prefecture. In April 1961, the establishment of Yunfu County was restored and belonged to Zhaoqing Prefecture. In January 1988, it belonged to Zhaoqing City. On September 3, 1992, the organizational system of Yunfu County was revoked and Yunfu City (county level) was established, which was directly under the jurisdiction of the province and managed by Zhaoqing City. The administrative area of the original Yunfu County was the administrative area of Yunfu City. On April 5, 1994, the State Council approved the upgrading of Yunfu City to a prefecture-level city.

Geography and climate

Yunfu City is located in the core of the hills of Guangdong and Guangxi, and the city's terrain is relatively high. The climate is a subtropical monsoon climate. Due to the high terrain of Yunfu City and the relatively backward economic development of the city, there is no large-scale urbanization development in most places, so the temperature in most of the year is generally lower than that of nearby cities.
