Rangtang County is located on the southeastern edge of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, the upper reaches of the Dadu River, the western part of Aba Tibetan and Qiang Autonomous Prefecture in Sichuan Province, the east and northeast borders with Malkang County and Aba County, the southeast borders Jinchuan County, the south and southwest borders Daofu County and Luhuo County, Ganzi Prefecture The county and Seda County are bordered by Seda County in Ganzi Prefecture to the west and northwest, and Banma County, Qinghai Province to the north.
