Taihu County is located on the northern bank of the Yangtze River, the upper reaches of the Wanhe River, and the southern foot of the Dabie Mountains. It is adjacent to Qianshan County and Huaining County in Anqing City to the east, Wangjiang County, Anqing City to the south, Susong County, Anqing City to the southwest, and Qichun, Huanggang City, Hubei Province to the west.
