Shopping

There are good small shops to choose from on several main streets of the city. They provide restaurants, souvenirs, jewelers and local crafts, as well as almost everything that citizens and tourists need in their daily lives.

Among other crafts, the island produces and provides high-quality batik in the form of fabrics, clothing, and a variety of home decorations and accessories. Batik is batik in Caribel, which is about 11 miles away in Bassett, located in a historic sugar plantation, Romney Manor, with a lovely tropical garden surrounding it.

In the past few years, Bassett’s waterfront has been filled to create a large-scale, tax-free, open-air shopping mall that mainly serves tourists. As of the fall of 2009, many stores are mostly occupied by many merchants, and more stores are under construction, but the speed is not fast. Many prices (spring 2011) are competitive with many other island cruise ports. Almost all merchants accept U.S. dollars. Before giving you a tax-free price, businesses will usually require you to show content that indicates that you are not a resident, such as a cruise card, foreign driver’s license, or passport.
