During his fourth expedition to the New World, Christopher Columbus discovered the Cayman Islands on May 10, 1503 and named it Turtle Island. According to historical records, the British navigator Francis Drake reached the island in 1586 and named it the Cayman Islands. In 1670, it became a British colony with Jamaica, under the jurisdiction of the Governor of Jamaica. After Jamaica's independence in 1962, it was transformed into a British colony.

The Cayman Islands is located in the Caribbean Sea 268 kilometers northwest of Jamaica and 640 kilometers south of Miami. It consists of three main islands. Grand Cayman has the largest area of ​​220 square kilometers. The other two islands, Cayman Brac and Little Cayman, are located about 145 kilometers northeast of Grand Cayman, with an area of ​​23 square kilometers and 16 square kilometers, respectively. The territory is relatively low, with an average elevation of 200 meters, mainly plains, and surrounding areas. There are coral reefs. About 1/2 of Grand Cayman is marshland. It has a tropical climate, with an average annual temperature of 24-30°C and annual precipitation of 1,200 mm.
