Riga Castle

Founded in 1203, it was once the residence of Livonia princes. In the 18th century, the rulers of the Russian Empire carried out large-scale renovations of the castle. At present, half of the castle is the presidential palace, with white halls, blue halls, and envoy halls with various top carvings and sculptures. The other half is the Latvian History Museum and the Latvian Museum of Foreign Art.

Tomsky Square

Saint Laurent sculpture in the old town of Riga

It is the heart of the old city, named after the Tomsky Church ("Tom" means "temple" in Latin) on the square. In 1998, it was included in the World Cultural and Natural Heritage Protection List by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). On one side of the square is the Riga Exchange built in 1856, and on the other side is the Tomsky Church built in 1211, which houses the largest pipe organ in Europe and the fourth largest in the world. This pipe organ has 124 sound areas, 26 bellows, and 6718 pipes. The longest is 10 meters and the shortest is only 13 mm. It can still be played today with beautiful timbre.

St. Peter's Church

Built in 1209, it was once one of the largest wooden churches in Europe. The church was plagued by disasters and was destroyed several times. In 1721, the church caught fire, and Peter the Great himself commanded the fire fighting. The church was destroyed during World War II and was later restored and changed to a metal structure. The restored church is 123.5 meters high and has a weathercock made of pig iron on the top (the rooster is considered a symbol of auspiciousness and can drive away ghosts and evil spirits. The rooster cries three times. , At dawn, the devil has to return to hell). There is an observation deck at 57 meters and 71 meters from the church bell tower, which overlooks the panoramic view of Riga.

Town Hall Square

Built in the 13th century, it used to be a place for handicraft trades, gatherings and important events in the city. The "Roland" statue in the center of the square represents the medieval judiciary, the freedom and independence of the city, and is regarded as the protector of commerce. To the south of the square is the Palace of Blackheads, named after the Brotherhood of Blackheads. The Brotherhood of Blackheads is a single merchant guild on the Baltic coast in the Middle Ages. Its members include German and Dutch merchants and sailors. They respect Saint Mauritius as a patron saint (the symbol is the head of the Moors in Africa). The Palace of the Blackheads was built in 1334 and was owned by the Brotherhood of Blackheads in 1713. It was destroyed during World War II and rebuilt in 1999.

Liberty monument

Built between 1931 and 1935, it is a symbol of the spiritual strength and ideal of freedom of the Latvian people. It is located in the center of Riga and is a landmark building in Riga. The monument is 42 meters high and has the words "Motherland and Freedom" engraved on it. The woman on the top of the monument is a symbol of freedom. The three gold stars in her hand represent the three historical and cultural regions of La: Widzem, Ratgarlie and Kurzem.

Learn

As of the end of 2015, there were 49 institutions of higher learning in Latin America, with 127,600 students and 3,636 teachers, with an average of 550 college students per 10,000 people. Many colleges and universities intend to open up the Chinese study abroad market and attract Chinese students, but there are very few Chinese students in Latvia at present. Most universities in Latvia, whether public or private, are well managed, have a relatively high level of education, and have relatively low tuition fees compared with other EU countries. Courses are mainly taught in Latvian, but most colleges and universities offer English courses to serve international students. Studying in Latvia requires a residence permit for study purposes. Except for government projects, Latvian universities rarely provide scholarships to international students, and most of them are at their own expense.

Work

The work permits for hiring foreigners to work in Lago are handled by Lafang employers. When there is a job vacancy, the employer must first publish a recruitment notice in the local newspaper, and can apply for hiring foreigners without finding a suitable candidate locally within one month. When applying, the employer must provide proof that the foreigner has the qualification to engage in the work. There are few Chinese in Latvia and they are mainly engaged in the catering industry. Most of the owners and chefs of Chinese restaurants are Chinese. Chinese people need to have a legal residence permit and work permit for employment in Latin America, and pay the local medical insurance, retirement fund and income tax on time and in full. It takes a long time to apply for work and residence permits.

Safety

The overall political situation in Latvia is stable, public security is good, and most of the criminal cases are non-violent. The main form of crime is pickpocketing in public places. It is recommended to store passports and air tickets close to your body, and to store copies of important documents separately. Computers, backpacks and other items should not be placed in the trunk, but should be placed in the trunk of the car. After a Chinese citizen is stolen or attacked in La, he should immediately report to the local police and contact the Chinese Embassy in time for help.

Medical treatment

Tick-borne forest encephalitis

It is necessary to prevent tick-borne forest encephalitis when entering the forests of Latvia in summer. The disease is an acute central nervous system infectious disease caused by the natural foci of forest encephalitis virus through the Ixodes vector. The clinical features are sudden high fever, disturbance of consciousness, headache, neck strength, paralysis of the upper limbs, neck and scapula, and sequelae are more common. Forest encephalitis virus parasitizes in the blood of rodents such as squirrels and wild mice, and spreads through blood-sucking insects. When entering a forest area where the disease exists, you may be infected after being bitten by an infectious tick, but most of the patients have a recessive infection or have only mild symptoms, and only a small part of them have obvious symptoms. People entering the affected area for the first time should be vaccinated against forest encephalitis disease. 15-20 days before going to the forest, the first shot must be given, and then the second shot 7-10 days later, a total of 2 shots.

Latvia is generally free of large-scale infectious diseases and has good sanitary conditions. In 2016, Latin America had 138 hospitals, 2090 clinics, 8,124 doctors, 1,050 family doctors, and 19,600 hospital beds. There are 34 doctors and 78.1 beds per 10,000 people. The medical conditions are good, the supply of medicines is normal, and the prices are reasonable. The sales of medicines are strictly supervised, and prescription medicines can only be purchased with a doctor's prescription. The hospital implements separation of medicines, the doctor prescribes the medicine, and the medicine is purchased separately at the pharmacy. Latvia implements compulsory medical insurance, and residents in Latvia must purchase medical insurance. General medical insurance has a half-year premium of 20 lats and a one-year premium of 40 lats. There is a slight difference in premiums for those over 60. The insured amount is 35.000 lats, including the treatment fee of 15,000 lats, which can afford medical and first aid expenses, the cost of returning to China for serious illnesses of 15,000 lats and the funeral expenses of 5,000 lats.

communication

Latvia has developed communications and convenient phone calls. The method of dialing from domestic to pull is 00371 plus Zaila's landline number or mobile phone number. There are four mobile phone operators in La La, and visitors can purchase network numbers at airports and urban convenience stores, stores and mobile phone business outlets, and then buy phone recharge cards. Each company has launched a preferential package, and the price varies depending on the situation. Pulling the Internet is a broadband high-speed mode, and the charges are reasonable.
