Langkawi(Malay: Pulau Langkawi) also translated into Langkawi, Langkawi, Lingkawi Island, and Horo Kawi. Located in the Strait of Malacca, it is the largest of the 104 islands on the coast of Kedah, Malaysia. Langkawi is about 112 kilometers north of Penang. Administratively, it belongs to the state of Kedah, Malaysia, and is geographically close to Thailand.
Langkawi obtained the status of a duty-free port in 1987. Today, the island’s economy is dominated by tourism and is one of the most famous tourist attractions in Malaysia.
