Panzano is the most populous town in Chianti, a few kilometers south of Greve. Since the 12th century, Panzano has played an important role in the defense of Florence.
Panzano CastleIt was a strong fortress that defended the Republic of Florence in the battle between Florence and Siena.
Church of the Virgin MaryIt dates back to 1200 AD, although the church we see now was rebuilt in the early 19th century, with a neoclassical style.
Pieve di San LeolinoNot far from the old town stands the Pieve di San Leorino church, an ancient country church that dates back to 982 AD. Although the elegant "Petra Serena" stones and colonnades give the exterior a Renaissance style, the church still retains the characteristics of the three naves that are unique to the Romanesque church. Some precious works of local artists are displayed inside.
