Wuqiu originally belonged to Putian County, Fujian Province. The residents mainly moved from the Putian area in central Fujian. Their mother tongue is Xinghua. It used to be a temporary stop at the sea for fishermen on the coast of Fujian during the fast fishing period or when avoiding typhoons on the sea. Later, fishermen gradually lived on the island during the spring and autumn season when the catch was the most abundant. The number of residents was as high as more than 1,000 people. beginning.

According to legend, the inhabitants of Wuqiu Island have a history of development dating back to the Tang and Song dynasties, while archaeological discoveries have unearthed porcelain from the Song and Yuan dynasties; from the 11th year of Tongzhi in the Qing Dynasty (1872) to the first year of Guangxu (1875), Daqiu Island Just built a lighthouse. In the 38th year of the Republic of China (1949), when the government of the Republic of China fell on the mainland and the government retreated to Taiwan, part of the guerrillas that participated in the civil war between the Kuomintang and the Communist Party moved to Wuqiu. After the United States provided military assistance in 1952, the guerrillas were reorganized into the "Anti-Communist Salvation Army." Some retired soldiers chose to take root there; in 1954, they were ordered by the Ministry of National Defense to establish a township. , It is placed under the "custodial management" of the Kinmen County Government.
