The national park was established in 1968 and was listed as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1983. Today, due to illegal hunting, grazing, and general neglect, it has been listed as an endangered World Heritage.

Flora and fauna
Comoe has a wide variety of plants, as well as a variety of crocodiles, hippos and migratory birds. The National Park is centered on the Comoe River, which flows through the pristine tropical rainforest in the southern part of the National Park.
