Ōkunoshima is a small island located in the Inner Sea of ​​Japan, in the west of the island of Honshū, the largest of Japan. It is part of the city of Takehara.

Understand

It is also known asUnasagi-shima (う さ ぎ 島, "The island of rabbits") because of the many wild rabbits living there and which attract many visitors. No one really knows why how the rabbits got here. Reaching the island is done by a ferry ride of about 12 min.

By train

Since the JR Mihara station (hosting the Shinkansen), take the Kure line and get off at Tadanoumi station. Walk around 07 min to the port of Tadanoumi. Take the boat to Ōkunoshima.

By bus

Since the Hiroshima bus station, take the "Kaguyahime-go", a coach going to the port of Tadanoumi. After a journey of about h 40, get off at the last stop. Walk around 07 min to the port of Tadanoumi. Take the boat to Ōkunoshima.

By car

From the Kōchi IC interchange of the San'yō Expressway, through the city of Takehara to the port of Tadanoumi, it is about 25 km. Park your vehicle at the port's free parking area. Take the boat to Ōkunoshima. Cars are not allowed on the island.

Circulate

There are no cars on the island, but you should be able to hire a bicycle from the only hotel on the island, which will allow you to travel throughout the island. You can also go for a walk.

To see

The island has many abandoned buildings that are worth exploring, especially the place where poison gas is produced. There are beautiful views and the wild rabbits make the atmosphere weird but cute as it makes you wonder what happened to this island.
