The Argalasti, Kalamos, Pau are its villages Pelion. According to the 2001 census, the population of Argalasti is 1,312 inhabitants.
At a glance
Argalasti is built in a fertile field 40 km southeast of Volos, at an altitude of 250 meters above sea level. It is an important tourist (and locally commercial) center of the region, as one of the villages of Pelion with a rich cultural tradition, and a station for those heading to the nearby beaches of Pagasitikos (Grass, Reed, Lefokastro) or the open Aegean (Watering, Black, Coat). The region is very fertile and produces oil, cereals and various fruits. Livestock also thrives.
An exceptional example of local architecture of the early twentieth century is the bell tower of the church of Agios Apostolos, while embedded in the walls of many structures are members of ancient and medieval buildings, which adds to the atmosphere of the village.
History
During the Turkish occupation, Argalasti was the capital of the "Vakufia". It developed economically and the area of Pelion was named after it. In 1821 he was burned by the Turks because he did not "worship". The church of Agios Apostolos (Peter and Paul) is located near the main square and was built in 1886, while its bell tower in 1913.
