THE Glyfada or Glyfa is a coastal village in the prefecture of Fokida which is built in the plain and at the foot of the hill Paliokastro, opposite the island of Trizonia, has 477 inhabitants. It is 23 km from the city of Nafpaktos and 45 km from Galaxidi. At the top of the hill have been found the remains of an important ancient citadel with walls, underground tanks and part of a temple. Traces of the ancient necropolis can be seen below the castle. Glyfada is a relatively recent settlement as the first inhabitants settled in the area in the early 1950s.

O Marathias is a small fishing village on the west coast of the Corinthian Gulf. It is located 20 km east of Nafpaktos, on the road Nafpaktos - Itea and about 80 km west of Delphi. According to the 2011 Census, Marathias has 521 inhabitants. It is a relatively newly built village. It was recognized as a settlement until 1920. The village is built on the delta formed for years by the two streams located at the edges of the village. In its small plain (about a thousand acres) spreads around the village are cultivated olives, lemons, oranges, apricots, bananas and many other fruit trees. The beach of the area, from Fokiotripa to Skaloma, is ideal for swimming and has been honored with gold starfish. The patron saint of the village is Agios Ioannis Prodromos with his church dominating the center of the village. At the western end of the village is the chapel of Panagia, by the sea and under the shade of tall plane trees. It celebrates on the 23rd of August and gathers a large number of pilgrims. Marathias is a vacation spot. Every summer, but also on Halloween and Easter, it gathers vacationers locals and foreigners for its beauty and the clear sea. It has several small modern hotel units and rooms to let, taverns, ouzo and cafes.

History

On the hill of Paliokastro, there is an ancient fortification dating to the end of the 4th - beginning of the 3rd BC. century. Inside there are enclosures on natural terraces and many remains of buildings. Among them stands a built-in tank of relatively large dimensions. The ancient city is located outside the fortification and mainly above the settlement of Glyfa. Northeastern part of the hill, residential remains of Hellenistic times were found. In the area of ​​the neck that connects the hill Paleokastro with the modern national road Nafpaktos - Itea, the necropolis has been located and today there are visible remains of tombs.
