Evia is its second largest island Of Greece and the sixth largest in the Mediterranean. It is so close to mainland Greece, that it reminds more of a mainland than an island.
At the closest point to Central Greece is built the capital and largest city of the island Chalkida, where there is one of the two links of the island with mainland Greece, the old bridge of Chalkida. Newer is the high bridge of Chalkida, one of the largest suspension bridges in Europe.
Evia together with Skyros have an area of 4,167 sq.km. and a population of 210,815 inhabitants, according to the 2011 census.
