The Janina[1] also known as Ioannina the Giannina is the capital and largest city of the prefecture of Ioannina and the whole Epirus with 111,740 inhabitants (2011).
At first glance

Ideal period of visit
All seasons. According to the Kepen Climate Classification, Ioannina has a marginal climate between Mediterranean (Csa) and subtropical liquid (Cfa), as there is only one summer month with rainfall of less than 40 mm. The summer is hot and dry while the winter is wet and colder than the coastal areas of Epirus. It is one of the rainiest cities in Greece. The highest temperature recorded is 42.4 ° C and the lowest -13 ° C.

What to see
- Perama Cave, Perama. - Ioannina has one of the most famous caves in Greece, the cave of Perama, about 830 meters long and with an area of about 14,400 sq.m. The cave was discovered by city dwellers who tried to find refuge from the bombing of Italian planes in 1940. It is known for the large and very beautiful variety of stalactites and stalagmites, which is highlighted by its well-placed and adjusted lighting.
- The Archaeological Museum of Ioannina, in Litharitsia Square. - The museum includes archaeological finds of all four prefectures of Epirus. It was renovated in the years 2008-2010 and has a quality ergonomic exhibit layout. With the establishment of the new archeological museums of Arta, Nikopolis (Preveza) and Igoumenitsa, the question has been raised of the return of all the exhibits of the other Prefectures, except those of the Prefecture of Ioannina.
