Krasnodar is a city in the south Russia, its capital Krasnodar Krai (also known as Cuban). Krasnodar was originally called Ekaterinodar or Yekaterinodar, meaning "gift of Catherine" and was built as a fortress by the Cossacks. During the October Revolution he changed hands between the "Whites" and the "Reds", while the Cossacks worked diligently as anti-Bolsheviks. After the October Revolution it was renamed from Catherine to Krasnodar in December 1920. According to the 2010 Census the city has 271,573 inhabitants.
