THE Resource is a green island in the Saronic Gulf, 32 nautical miles from it Piraeus. It has an area of 33 sq.km., a coastline of 42 km and a population of about 3,650.
In ancient times it was considered the island of Poseidon, god of the sea. The word "Poros" in ancient Greek means a small sea passage, and correctly described the location of Poros since the distance from Peloponnese is only 200m.
The island is divided into two, Calabria is the largest part, while the smallest part in which the city of Poros is located, is called Sfaira.
The pine forests dominate the island, the crystal clear waters and the picturesque city.

What to see
- Clock Tower. The clock was built in 1927. It is located at the highest point of the island and the view from there is amazing.
- Archaeological Museum, Korizi Square. Wed-Sun 09: 00-15: 00. Finds from the temple of Poseidon, from ancient Magoula, Apathia, Monti, and Agios Konstantinos from Methana are on display.
- Small museum of Poros. Daily 09: 00-13: 00 & 18: 00-21: 00. Opened in 2006, it exhibits shells from the Greek seas. The Municipal Library contains more than 8,000 books and more than 200 DVDs.
- Temple of Poseidon. The ancient temple of Poseidon is located on the north side of the island. The exact date of construction is not known, it is estimated that it was built in 520 BC. The dimensions of the temple are 27.4x14.4m and it is of Doric style. It has six columns on each small side and 12 along the large side. In this temple Demosthenes drank the poison in 322 BC. during his escape from the Macedonian governor Antipater.
- Monastery of Zoodochos fountain. It was founded in 1720, located 4km east of the city of Poros, at the foot of a pine forest. In 1814, a group of monks from Mount Athos found refuge in the monastery. A few years later, these monks founded the monastery of Zoodochos Pigi in Paros. The church is simple without many hagiographies. The wooden iconostasis that was built in Cappadocia in the 17th century, together with the wood-carved iconostasis and the throne, are of great interest.
- Bourtzi Castle. It was built in 1828 by Von Heidek on the site of the old church of St. Constantine. The island was ceded to the monastery of Poros in 1770 by Antonios Serfos. The dispute between Hydra and Kapodistrias, gave rise to a great battle that took place here in 1831.
- "Diana" summer cinema. Watch a movie under the sky.
- Naval Base. Poros housed the first naval base of the modern Greek state, founded in 1827 during the war of independence. Most of the base's activities were transferred to the naval base of Salamis in 1881. The base is still used by the Greek navy as a training center. In 1834 warehouses and a bakery were built to supply the Russian fleet. The Russians used the facility until about 1900. In 1989, by ministerial decision, the Russian pier was declared a historic monument due to its architectural and historical interest.
- Ancient Troy. Ancient Trizina is known as the birthplace of Theseus, and is one of the most interesting places near Poros. All the historical finds of Trizina are in the archeological museum. Then after Trizina, at a distance of 3 km, in an area called Royal Tombs, there are tombs of the Mycenaean period.
- Lemon forest. An area with more than 30,000 lemons and oranges, and many taverns, is located opposite Galatas in the Peloponnese. From the top it has a very good panoramic view. It is ten minutes by boat. It has been declared a protected area by the European Union.

- lovers beach. Cove with blue-green waters under the pines. It is an organized beach with sunbeds, umbrellas and a canteen which serves sandwiches, coffee, ice cream, ouzo, wine and beer.
- Russian bay beach. Beautiful bay, declared a historical monument due to its architectural and historical interest. Opposite is the islet of Daskalio, with a church. Nearby is Gerolimenas, a pebble beach on the island of Petra.
- Neorio beach. The pines embrace the beach and give the green color to the waters. With crystal clear water, it creates the illusion of a huge mirror. The beach also has a center for marine activities.
- Kanali beach. It is located after the bridge that connects the primary school with the settlement. It is 15 minutes walk from the center of the settlement, in the center of Askeli bay
- Askeli beach. after the canal, the coastal road continues and leads to Askeli, a few kilometers southeast of the port. Askeli overlooks the open sea and is built amphitheatrically on a pine hillside with panoramic views. A serpentine road goes up from the beach the slope to the top of the hill.
- Monastiri beach. The monastery is located on a hill on the east coast, below it there is a quiet beach with crystal clear waters next to a pine forest. The area offers water sports and diving. Sun loungers and parasols are available, and there is a canteen.
- Vagonia beach. Vagonia is a quiet beach with sand and pebbles, in the northern part of the island, has sunbeds and umbrellas and a snack bar.
- Aliki beach. Aliki is a large beach with shallow waters, Bourtzi is opposite. At the entrance of Poros, as you come by boat from Hydra.

The water ski center is managed by Sotiris Kyprios, former slalom champion and his wife Marianna. It can accommodate 45 skiers and teach them how to go water skiing, from beginners to advanced. - Devil Bridge. Walking northwest of Poros, we find a place of natural beauty. Here a small river runs through a deep gorge.

Poros is connected to its island Aegina and the Methana peninsula by ferry, and with Hydra, Spetses, Hermione and Porto Heli with hydrofoil.
