THE Casta Tomb is a hill, an archeological monument in its wider area of ancient Amphipolis in Macedonia, popular due to the discovery of a Macedonian burial monument in what is referred to as tomb of Amphipolis. It is located about 900 meters southeast of the village of Mesolakkia, Serres. The tomb and the nearby area in the mound are not accessible and are guarded. Visitors can see the mound from a distance of about 50-100 meters and take photos.
Access instructions
From the National Road Mesorrachis - Amfipolis (E059), one has direct access to the village of Nea Mesolakkia. At the end of the main, two-way access road from the National Road of Nea Mesolakkia (270-280 meters), go right. At the end of the road (about 100 meters), go left. In a few meters, on the first road, immediately left and then immediately right. The country road leads to 600 meters at an intersection (on the right hand there is a water tank), to which you have to go right. At a distance of about 200 meters the mound is visible.
Description
From the location of the outpost, in front you can see the Kasta tomb and part of the marble enclosure with a perimeter of 497 meters. On the right you can see hill 133 (which is much higher and already visible from the village of Nea Mesolakkia, where there is a settlement of prehistoric and Hellenistic times. Between the two hills, there is a small hill, created by the excavation soil of the Kasta mound.
