The name is just a bit exaggerated, because the Alps here almost include the highest mountains in Japan, including but not limited toMount FujiMany of them are over 3000 meters, and there is still a lot of snow in summer. The Japanese Alps are usually divided into three parts, which also have their own alternative names:
- Northern Alps(North Alpus, Kita Arupusu) also known asHida Mountains(Hida-sanmyaku), locatedGifu PrefectureOkuhida Hot Spring Village。
- Central Alps(Central Alpus, Chūō Arupusu) is also calledKiso Mountains(Kiso-sanmyaku), mainly distributed inNagano Prefecture。
